The NP took a bit of extra time to indicate to the pharmacy that there was not only a dose change but also new combination pill.

These small notes and gestures mean the world to us pharmacists:

  1. Saves time from questioning the patient about the details of their appointment or if the prescriber made a typo on the computer ... "What did you discuss? Did the prescriber mean to change this?"
  2. Saves paperwork (and time) from faxing/calling to "Please clarify the dosage, drug, regimen, etc for this prescription."
  3. Saves the prescriber paperwork (and time) from replying to our faxes/call clarification.
  4. Facilitates discussion with patient about the changes ... "So here's a recap of what's changed and this is what you can monitor moving forward."

I understand that notification/communication of changes of medications is not mandatory, but certainly it's appreciated when it happens! Thank you!

What other small gestures help you deliver better patient care?
