This recent experience I had with a patient illustrates some of the holes within our current system...
This is all I think about when I have a patient who:
a) doesn't want to see their doctor/NP b) doesn't want a MedsCheck c) doesn't want my advice but clearly.... d) has a Drug Therapy Problem and would benefit from all of the above... It's pretty common for a patient to request a refill for a medication that he or she does not know the name for, and all they know is the description....
Two years ago, I was completely outsmarted by a patient during one of my clinical rotations...
Patient's spouse: "How long is this one ice pack going to keep my husband's insulin cool for on the plane?"
Three burglars broke into a pharmacy in Toronto, Ontario last night. However, unlike a typical pharmacy break-in, the pharmacy reported that no medications were taken. Edward Gopok, owner of Trainer Drug Mart, has allegedly charged a higher than usual dispensing fee to a patient. Mr Larry Jaz filed the complaint with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
“I had a prescription to fill,” says Larry. “The listed dispensing fee was ten dollars so I gave them my prescription and started playing Pokémon Go on my phone while I waited.” |
